swim, swam, swum

I started swimming at the age of three and I went to classes until I was seven. Since then, I've always swum quite well, but just for fun.

This Autumn I decided to join a course again, to gain strength and (obviously) be a better swimmer. We started going on Fridays, but the thing is that now the coach has decided to form a club and the training days have increased to three per week. it may seem very tiring, in fact it is, but I really enjoy it! It is a kind of tiredness that is rewarding, that makes you feel great. 

On Tuesday we were learning butterfly stye, it is tough: I swallowed liters of water! However, I liked it.

By the moment I'm able to combine this with school, one hour of English, one and a half hour of German and sailing, but some days, if I have a lo of homework or I'm with exams, I must miss the class.

northern lights

Solar activity producing intense geomagnetic strorms is making the northern lights visible across Ireland, Scotland and generally, northern Britain. Aurora borealis is the reaction of charged particules colliding with earth's magnetic shield, what refracts light and produces the spectacular show of changing colored lights. To be able to visualize this phenomena you just need a clear and dark sky, and as The Guardian says, a hat and a coat. If you live in the campside you'll be more likely to see them. The best hour is at nighfall and you can easily capture them with a camera, so do not forget yours!

I've always wanted to see the aurora borealis with my own eyes, but unfortunately they're not visible from Spain... So if you live in norhern Britain or even northern Europe do not miss this stunning show if you have the chance to see it. As it seems this solar activity only occurs during some days every ten or fifty years, so take your chance now because you may not be able to see them this easily for a lot of time.

big mango stolen

Has anyone seen a mango? If so, Australia misses one.

This is how a report in the Huffington post started last Monday, according to the stealing of a great mango exhibited in Queensland, Australia. It seems that an organized group of clever thieves appeard about two a.m with a crane to pull that massive fake fruit and take it somewhere. Furthermore, it is still not found! That mango represents an important tourist attraction for the city, so local police have started an investigation. Paul McLaughlin told to the Brisbane times that sooner than later they would find it, just because of the big problem it represents to have a 10m mango in your garden.

It may sound a bit absurd, but I find this new very funny and, why not, intersting. Imagine that a monument in your town disappears! Even tough, some rumors comment that this is a strategy to make publicity of the mango, so once it is returned the town will be more popular. Im my opinion, it is a funny -but not fair- way of publiciting your hometown!

gap year

A gap year is a period of time that can last for a year or even longer, perhaps shorter, as you want! During this year, you travel to a foreing country to learn a language, to find a new job, meet people, etc. the reasons for travelling are almlost milions!

If I could go on a gap year I guess I would travel to somwere warm and with good wind or waves, though everywhere would be fantastic! I wonder I'll be able to go on one some day (let's hope not a gar day!).

A lot of people go on their gap year in order to learn a new language or practise asecond languange. It is common to get a job in the new country, but it is also possible to go as a volunteer somewhere people need help. I think the first option is very exciting, but the second one is more likely to teach you about life. Because life is about having fun, learning languages, meeting new people... But also about learning principles, and a gap year as a volunteer is one of the most enriching experiences regarding values. 

My advice is that if you ever have the chance to go on a gap year, do not hesitate to get involved!

being a monster

Have you ever heard about cloning or artificial life? It seems something of the future, it sounds science fiction... But it is not sci-fi, nor just a dream for some mad scientists, it is real. Too real.

Everyone remembers his/her childhood, everyone's got a friend and everyone has parents. Everyone but me. I didn't have a birth, i just woke up one day being unable to speak, to walk and to feel. I am the "monster", though I'd rather say that I'm the cration of a monster.

Hiding in the shadows is not an easy life, but it teaches you more and faster: in a few months I was able to speak, to walk, to run, and even to feel. A different way of feeling, of that I'm sure, but I could feel envy, anger, hate and all those "terrible" feelings you, human, try to avoid. I dare say that if I'm only able to be evil, it is because that's all I recieved from you: sticks and stones...

I don't agree with you, mankind: I'm not a monster. I'm just your creation and in my eyes YOU are THE monster. You have no mercy, you have no sense of justice and you are the most selfish creature in the whole world.

I'm coming for you, rubbish!

frankenstein

BOOK vs. FILM

when you read a book and then watch the film, it is impossible not to find differences between them. Normally you first read the book and after some time, when the book's become popular, the movie is available.

this happened to me with the Hunger Games and I have to say that the film didn't disappoint me. Though I prefer the book. This usually happens with all, and Frankenstein is not the exception.

Although watching the film is easier (you just have to sit and stare) I enjoyed reading the book more:

• firs reason: You can imagine the characters as you want, the background as you want, ant the whole amount of details as you want.
• second reason: This version of the film has got a lot of changes regarding the book. I understand that cinema must add and invent things to make the film more attractive... but I don't really like the kind of things they've added.

Even though I prefer the book, I also recommend you to watch the film, it really worths it.

orphan black

A girl on a train. She looks high. She gets off the train, she's talking to someone on her phone when she sees a girl taking her shoes out... She turns around, looks at our black-dressed girl and jumps to the lane when the train's approaching. God! What's happened? In the chaos, our girl picks the suicide's bag and runs away. What she founds in the bag... So scary!

Sarah discovers that the girl who jumped to the railway looked exactly to her and it seems like she had a better life than she has, so Sarah attempts to live Beth's life by changing her style, getting into her flat, studying her photos, videos and objects... At the same time we see Fee, Sarah's stepbrother trying to help Sarah and simulating that the girl who jumped onto the train was her. He even organizes her funeral! But getting into another's life isn't that easy, Sarah must deal with all Beth's troubles...

The first episode of this exciting serie is so thrilling that you can't stop watching, when it's over your first reaction will be to search for the second one. I really recommend this, by the time, two season-serie that keeps you thinking and thinking what the hell is happening and how it is going to continue! If you are a fan of sci-fi combined with drama, you can't miss it.

I've really liked how the first episode goes on, can't wait to see the second!
