gap year

A gap year is a period of time that can last for a year or even longer, perhaps shorter, as you want! During this year, you travel to a foreing country to learn a language, to find a new job, meet people, etc. the reasons for travelling are almlost milions!

If I could go on a gap year I guess I would travel to somwere warm and with good wind or waves, though everywhere would be fantastic! I wonder I'll be able to go on one some day (let's hope not a gar day!).

A lot of people go on their gap year in order to learn a new language or practise asecond languange. It is common to get a job in the new country, but it is also possible to go as a volunteer somewhere people need help. I think the first option is very exciting, but the second one is more likely to teach you about life. Because life is about having fun, learning languages, meeting new people... But also about learning principles, and a gap year as a volunteer is one of the most enriching experiences regarding values.

My advice is that if you ever have the chance to go on a gap year, do not hesitate to get involved!

being a monster

Have you ever heard about cloning or artificial life? It seems something of the future, it sounds science fiction... But it is not sci-fi, nor just a dream for some mad scientists, it is real. Too real.

Everyone remembers his/her childhood, everyone's got a friend and everyone has parents. Everyone but me. I didn't have a birth, i just woke up one day being unable to speak, to walk and to feel. I am the "monster", though I'd rather say that I'm the cration of a monster.

Hiding in the shadows is not an easy life, but it teaches you more and faster: in a few months I was able to speak, to walk, to run, and even to feel. A different way of feeling, of that I'm sure, but I could feel envy, anger, hate and all those "terrible" feelings you, human, try to avoid. I dare say that if I'm only able to be evil, it is because that's all I recieved from you: sticks and stones...

I don't agree with you, mankind: I'm not a monster. I'm just your creation and in my eyes YOU are THE monster. You have no mercy, you have no sense of justice and you are the most selfish creature in the whole world.

I'm coming for you, rubbish!

google glass

This year Google inc. published its latest project: google glass. Google glass is a product that allows you to take photos, videos, search things on the internet, make videocalls... from the sight of your eye! It comes with an android system and it is connected to your mobile phone device. It also includes a camera with five megapyxels. By now it is just a developing project, so you can't buy them yet as a normal user but as a volunteer to help to improve them. It seems that they will be available during this year.

In my opinion this new product seems very interesting and practical. Although I would wait to buy the glasses to see how other people manage with them and to make sure they worth it, because as you can imagine they`re not cheap at all. There's something I dislike about this product, if now people are addictedt to their phones, imagine if they didn't even have to keep them in their pocket: they would be the whole day staring at the screen above their eyes and forget the the rest.

In conclusion, this is quite a good new, however, we must be careful on the use we make of new technologies.

devious maids

Last Thursday in English class we saw the first episode of a new series (at least new for me) called devious maids. It is directed by Eva Longoria, the actress famous (in part) for acting in Desperate housewifes.

It is about (as you can imagine) the life of several maids serving in extraordinary mansions to wealthy people. In this first episode we meet Marisol, Carmen, Zoila and Rosie having their first (well, for some of them it is not their very first) encounters with their "kind" employers.

I found it really funny and amusing, the actors aren't difficult to understand (in O.V, for a spanish speaker such as me) due to their latin origin but also the american ones have clear accent and diction. It is intersting to see how rich can some people be, but also (and the most important) to see how they treat their employees, in many cases immigrant people with a ridiculous salary and with family difficulties that do not give a brick to them (the employers).

uni 2

I told you I would tell you something as soon as possible. I'be already been to UdG and I've had my time to think about the excursion there... I have my conclusions:

1/ I'm going to study architecture, wherever.
2/ I wouldn't be unpleased to study it in Girona.
3/ I'm definetly not studing law.
4/ I'll try to avoid being into court (of course as an espectator) it is sooooo boring.

Perhaps I sound a bit extreme, I'll explain myself: we arrived at the uni about a quarter past nine, we had time to walk around and discover by ourselves the campus. At ten, architecture's introduction started. It was amazing, so challenging, thrilling and engaging. I went out of the room imagining me as an architect already! Then we visited the labs and the campus (now guided).

About law I have to say (please, lawyers, do not be angry with me) that I found it extremately boring and zero-creative, I guess that's because I've never been interested in that. The court simulation wasn't that dull, but I've had enough with that one:)

uni

How is Girona's University? Tomorrow I'm going to know the answer!

I've already been to UAB, one campus in Barcelona that I visited with school a couple of weeks ago. There I went to the presentation of two degrees: microengineering and physics. I really liked the first one, but you need chemistry to get into it and I'm not doing it (I've chosen techincal drawing instead). About physics, I found it abit disappointing, well, rather than disappointing a bit boring.

In Girona I've aplied for the introduction of architecture, the degree I've always known I wanted to study. I think they're also going to show us the buildings and the library there. As I've heard, on Girona teachers are closer to students because it is smaller and newer. Even though, I want to study in Barcelona. Then I'm going to see the law presentation, I'm not very interested in that but the introduction sounds fun (they're going to simulate a court!).

By now I'm quite sure I want to study architecture, but who knows if I may change my mind? I'll tell you something next week!

Kieler Woche 2014 - Von Kiel in die Welt

kiel

Last season, my coach told me about a very famous race celebrated in Germany: the Kieler woche (Kiels's week). He told us (to the team) about the race and instantly we wanted to go! unfortunately we finally didn't go, because it was expensive and a bit too far regarding that we had started that same year. But time's passed so fast and we are already preparing the calendar for next season and summer, and it seems like this June... we're traveling to Kiel!!!

I was already excited when I heard about that, but my excitement boosted when a couple of weeks ago the organization shared the promotional video for this year. I'm really looking forward for it, although it will be cold. Germany is a beautiful place, and as I've heard Kiel is great: just watching the video you can make an idea of how great the experience of being in that race would be. I can't wait to go there!

It seems like Kiel's winds are not too hard nor too light (perfect!) and the temperature in June-July is like the average temp. here in middle spring. I'll have to wear my winter clothes again, but I think it is going to worth it. Another point to contemplate is the long journey to there, which is in northern Germany, about 2000Km far from Barcelona. We still have to decide if we're going there by plane or with our club's van, and there are a lot of details to settle...

I'll keep you informed!

I've post the video up there! (the post just before this one...)

frankenstein

BOOK vs. FILM

when you read a book and then watch the film, it is impossible not to find differences between them. Normally you first read the book and after some time, when the book's become popular, the movie is available.

this happened to me with the Hunger Games and I have to say that the film didn't disappoint me. Though I prefer the book. This usually happens with all, and Frankenstein is not the exception.

Although watching the film is easier (you just have to sit and stare) I enjoyed reading the book more:

  • firs reason: You can imagine the characters as you want, the background as you want, ant the whole amount of details as you want.
  • second reason: This version of the film has got a lot of changes regarding the book. I understand that cinema must add and invent things to make the film more attractive... but I don't really like the kind of things they've added.
Even though I prefer the book, I also recommend you to watch the film, it really worths it.

new hobby

I had always been interested in photography, but it wasn't until christmas that I received my first camera. It is a Nikon Coolpix, it works really well and I'm very happy with it. I started taking photos just the day after I got it (I had to charge it before) and by now I already have some photos that in my opinion are quite good. Although I still have to learn a lot about how to focus and light, I'll show you a photo I consider beautiful and, why not, well done;)

It may look like I put the cone deliberately, but I actually found it like this (of course someone had left it that way). I like the photo because you can see the cone but also the blue colors of the sea and the bright day it was. However you won't believe, I took it in January! I was having a walk with my parents and I picked the camera hoping to take some nice photos... and I think I did!
